FC BrewHaHa Tournament Highlights

August 18th, 1-0 win vs. Purple Dweebs

Saturday

Saturday dawned early, every early as we entered the annual PACSL tournament this year for the first time with a team actually resembling the one we had during the regular season. We got off to a good start against the Tornados, notching a 2-0 victory in one of the short format games. We wouldn't prove to be quite so lucky in the next game against Rhythm and Blues, as we simply couldn't find the back of the net. Grant slid one just by the right post, and DiCarlo had a great header off a free kick which took a bad bounce in the sand, all leading to a scoreless result. I think somebody on the team must have had bad karma, because things didn't get much better against the Purple Dweebs. We scored to take the lead, and then in classic FC BrewHaHa fashion gave back a goal that Brian scored since the ball had contacted his hand earlier on the run. The good sportsmanship only bit us in the ass though, since late in the second half the ref blew an obvious call, granting the Dweebs a corner which should have been a goal kick, which they converted to tie things up at one apiece.

Scoring Summary:

  1. Christian directly off a penalty kick (Tornados)
  2. Grant from Heather and Jessica (Tornados)
  3. DiCarlo from Marie (Dweebs)

Sunday:

We woke up Sunday knowing that we needed two victories to have any chance of victory in the tournament, and wouldn't you know it that's exactly what we got. We overpowered Team Advil first, and then Marie finally came alive against Web Hogs nothing two against a demoralized squad. Overall it was a great end to the season, and with the strange points system of the tournament we ended up tied for First Place with the Purple Dweebs, each team having 35 points (and 7 goals for, and 1 goal against, so no way to tiebreak). I did my best to challenge the Dweebs to some kind of shootout for tiebreaker, but all they said was something about "drinking games". Thanks everyone for a great season, looking forward to the next one!

Scoring Summary:

  1. Grant from Erin (Advil)
  2. DiCarlo from Grant (Advil)
  3. Marie from DiCarlo (Hogs)
  4. Marie from DiCarlo and Grant (Hogs)

Am I the only one that noticed DiCarlo got as many assists in the tournament as he did the entire rest of the season? Marie had clearly been saving something up too:-)
